Figuring out what you need as a first-time mom can be overwhelming. The internet is saturated with so many baby products, toys, and gear.
By the time you’re a second-time mom, you know what you need. You’ve had time to test out different products and toys. You know what the best and most practical baby items are.
These are my must-have items for second-time moms. Find my favorite products for mom, baby, and older siblings, as well as the best baby carriers. (I’ve tried a ton!)
p.s. - these are also my favorite things to gift to second-time moms, too!
Essentials for Second-Time Moms
These pajamas are my favorite. I wear them on repeat! They’re nursing-friendly and so comfortable.
I love the quality. They’re 100% cotton, too.
My motto is: if you’re not sleeping through the night, you might as well look cute!
I believe every mom should have one of these night lights. Dim it with the touch of a finger or turn it off by flipping it over.
This little egg light is a must-have item for middle of the night feedings and diaper changes.
I seriously wish I had this monitor with my first! The picture on the screen is so clear.
It doesn’t use Wi-Fi and holds a charge well.
DIME Beauty - The Works System
Self-care is so important, especially during postpartum. I felt so much better each day when I prioritized a couple minutes to myself and did my skincare routine. It only takes 5 minutes or less!
The Gentle Jelly Cleanser is what I use to wash my face. DIME products are EWG-rated and made with clean ingredients. I love them.
I scoop these in my coffee every morning! Mix in with a spoon and it melts right in. You can’t taste it.
I have felt so much better my second time around postpartum because I’m taking care of myself. These are part of my daily routine.
Primally Pure Non-Toxic Deodorant
I love this deodorant. It smells so good. My favorite is Blue Tansy.
It’s the one clean, non-toxic deodorant I’ve found that can take care of the postpartum stink!

Best Gifts for Baby
This is my favorite first teether for baby! Teethers are important for oral sensory input, so you can use them for more than just teething pain support.
The bristles on this teether are soothing to a baby’s gums. It doesn’t go too far back in the mouth, and its ring shape makes it easy to hold and mouth. It comes with a hygienic carrying case, which is an added bonus.
Start offering this teether to baby at 3 months old and continue to use it when their teeth start erupting around 6 months!
These are my favorite booties. They’re 100% cotton and never fall off! It’s one of the products I recommend for baby registries.
They are perfect as baby gets to moving with non-slip treads on the bottoms. These baby booties are offered in lots of colors and fun patterns.
Burt’s Bees Organic Cotton Sleepers
I love these organic cotton sleepers! They wash well and come in so many fun prints for baby boys and baby girls.
The grippy feet are great once baby starts moving!
An easy way to record milestones for the second baby (and the first!) Just hang it up and write their milestones on the date they happened.
I have one of these for Paul and Penelope. I love going back and reading the notes and milestones I wrote during each week of their first year!
This is a game changer. Clip it near the carseat or stroller while baby naps on-the-go.
It is so easy to pack it while traveling to use in a hotel room, etc. for a familiar white noise for baby to fall asleep to. We love ours!
Gifts for Older Siblings
Books About Becoming an Older Sibling
These are two of our favorites: I Am a Big Brother! and I Am a Big Sister! Both variations are great books to read to little ones when preparing to welcome a new baby.
These books have simple rhymes and welcome a gender neutral baby. They talk about how older siblings can help take care of baby, too.
We have a whole list of books to prepare little ones for transitions and new experiences if you’re looking for more!
Tula Baby Doll Carrier for Kids
If your child wants to help and be more involved, let them mimic you with a baby doll! Role-playing can help little ones process what’s going on around them.
This baby doll carrier is so cute. Let them hold their baby while you hold their baby sibling. They’ll feel more included and helpful, too!
Mini TushBaby Hip Carrier for Kids
This is another cute way to help your little one feel involved. Give them a baby doll and let them be the mommy!
When you are holding their baby sibling in a real carrier and they are holding their baby doll in their carrier, it creates a shared activity.

One of the best sticker books on Amazon, and best priced, too! We have a couple of these and Paul loves to create scenes in them.
This is a fun activity to bring out for your child when you have to feed baby, etc. so they have something different to keep them occupied!
Best Baby Carriers to Keep Hands Free
This is such a comfortable wrap. It’s great for when baby is tiny - the newborn to 3 month stage.
It makes baby feel safe and secure like the womb. Machine washable, too!
The comfiest carrier I own! Every mom should look into one of these.
The shoulder and back support are so great. I love that there is a piece to flip up to provide more head support. It also helps to darken baby’s sleep space if they are taking a nap in the carrier.
I LOVE this hip carrier. You can use it when baby is 4-5 months and older.
It takes all the pressure off your back and it has pockets! I use it as a diaper bag when we run into places like the store or library. It is amazing.
It has a Snug Attachment to make it completely hands-free. Code “EATPLAYSAY” saves 15% on their website.
